Ol McDonald had a farm Ee, i, Ee, i, oh

Good morning to you. I hear tomorrow spring will have sprung and my nose will be pressed against the glass waiting. I don't think I've ever been more anxious for a season to change as I am for spring to arrive. I can smell it in the air ~ Yahoo!

Dad and I have been getting the ground ready to accept what we have to offer. This will be my first year actually involved in planting and I'm not sure I'll be invited back next year. It involves a lot of blood (literally) sweat and tears (literally). So the story goes:

The ground needs to be rototilled (what ?). So put this picture in your mind. Here's Katie with this thing that will eat you alive as it's dragging me through the dirt. My dad, on the other hand was raking old leaves and compost. All of sudden I see my father jump 5ft. into the air yelling... STOP!!!!!

About 15ft. later, I finally got the contraption to stop jarring everything inside my being and wobble on over to see what my dad was hollering about. Under a pile of old leaves, right in the middle of the garden was a nest of baby bunnies. Now what?

My dad proceeds to inform me that now we'll have to work around the nest. Here I am having a hard enough time keeping that dirt grinder in a straight line and now he wants me to do circles. Oh it's good to be me.

After 2 1/2 hours of this, my bloody blistering hands and I needed a break. As we sat under the tree (ahhhh) to reflect and ponder, we spotted a mother duck and her 6 ducklings waddling across the lawn. I looked over at my dad without saying a word, just giving the look and realized I was working side by side with Ol McDonald and his animal farm. My dads response "Isn't that something".

When my day was complete with sore everything, I headed home. Tears began to cloud my vision as I played back the day in my mind. What a wonderful day I had with my dad and his surroundings. I wouldn't trade it for the world..... a rake maybe.

Hoping your day is filled with things you will remember always. Take care of you and yours and Enjoy!

My sister used to help my Dad like that with his garden. Finally they gave it up. Nature in the Spring is truly awesome. I'm not a gardener at all any more but love it all. 'On Ya'-ma

I'm getting excited about gardening, too. I love it for the meditation factor as much as for the fresh veggies!

I can just picture you trying to control that big machine tilling the ground and then you have to dodge baby bunnies. Bet they were sooo cute.

What a wonderful picture you painted with your words. I am envious! I really miss the gardens and yearly ritual of preparation and envisioning my harvest.
